What are my Breast Augmentation Incision Options?

contact us

It’s mid-summer in Detroit and summer wardrobes are all around us. With swim-suit season in full swing, potential breast augmentation candidates might be wondering about the visible scarring associated with breast augmentation procedures. Luckily, Detroit cosmetic surgeon Dr. Rifai offers three different incision options to help you best meet your aesthetic pool-side requirements.

There are different advantages associated with each breast incision option:

  • Incision around the nipple (periariolar) – If you want a potentially less obvious scar that is easily hidden under a bathing suit, this may be your preferred option. The drawback is that periariolar incisions are generally too small for silicone breast implants.
  • Incision underneath the breast (inframammary) – Similar to the periariolar incision, the inframammary scar is bikini-friendly and inconspicuously hidden under the fold of the breast. Inframammary incisions can also accommodate both silicone and saline breast augmentation implants.
  • Incision in the armpit (transaxillary) – If you are concerned about your pool-side attire, this may be your least favorable incision option. Though the scar is kept away from the breast, the scar location cannot be covered up by a bathing suit. Transaxillary incisions also limit your breast augmentation options to saline implants.

The incision location for your breast augmentation procedure will have a significant impact the end results of your procedure. It’s important for you to understand the benefits and limitations of each option so you can have comfortable and successful experience.

To help you make an informed decision, Dr. Rifai offers consultations for patients in the Detroit, Southfield, Port Huron and Jackson, Michigan areas. At any of our office locations, Dr. Rifai can assess your needs and answer your breast augmentation questions you might have.
