What Are The Restrictions After A Tummy Tuck Surgery?

contact us

Everyone who considers getting a tummy tuck is very excited about seeing a firmer, flatter stomach. However, even with the excitement, it is crucial to be sure you allow yourself ample recovery time. It is imperative that you carefully follow the post-operative recovery instructions and not try to cheat on your physical recovery time.

At home, you will be asked to be on bed rest. However, it is bed rest with occassional moving around at various intervals. You may want to plan your recovery period to coincide with a friend or family member available to you for at least 3-5 days.

Going about your basic routine after surgery can be challenging.  Be sure to follow your surgeon’s instructions. Definitely do not lift kids or weighty items until you receive the ‘all clear’ from your doctor. Our Michigan cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Rafai, encourages patients to not return to work for a full two weeks.

Recovery Restrictions

Your preliminary recovery time requires at least 2-3 weeks. For the first few days, you will want to be sure you can easily rest and have downtime. That way, your scarring will be minimal. To avoid bruising or swelling, here are some critical pieces of medical advice:

  • No heavy lifting at all during your recovery
  • Avoid any arduous activity
  • Stay home and get rest for the full 2-3 weeks.

A full recovery is well within reach when you follow your surgeon’s recommendations. That way, you will achieve the results you desire with minimal scarring, bruising or swelling.

Deciding if a tummy tuck is the right procedure for you shouldn’t be done alone, contact Dr. Rafai and his Michigan staff to explore your options.
