Serving Detroit, Southfield, Port Huron and Jackson, Michigan

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure can give you a flatter, firmer stomach. During your consultation for the procedure, Detroit cosmetic surgeon Dr. Rouchdi Rifai will answer all of your questions about abdominoplasty, but this page will give you an overview of what you can expect.

Your Tummy Tuck Consultation

At your consultation with Dr. Rifai, you will discuss your desired outcomes and exactly what you can expect from the tummy tuck procedure. You should be prepared to talk about your medical history and current medications so that we can properly plan your procedure and make sure you are a good candidate for abdominoplasty.

Dr. Rifai really takes the time with every patient to make sure you are ready to bring your inner beauty outward. Our goal is to exceed your expectations. If you’re ready to meet with Dr. Rifai, please call 248-723-9370 today.

Pre-op Preparation

Once you schedule your surgery with Dr. Rifai, we will provide complete pre- and post-operative care instructions. Important preparations to keep in mind include:

  • Stop smoking at least three weeks prior to surgery
  • Don’t take diet pills or herbal supplements for at least two weeks before surgery
  • Don’t take aspirin or ibuprofen for two weeks before surgery
  • Prefill your medications for your recovery
  • Prepare your home for a few days of relaxation

Following all of the care instructions that we provide for your body contouring procedure will ensure that you have a safe and effective surgery and recovery.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Your initial recovery from the abdominoplasty procedure will last about two to three weeks. You can expect some swelling and bruising in the surgery area and should take care in the first few days to relax and give your body time to heal. Any swelling will reduce dramatically in the first six weeks and begin to reveal your results.

Most patients are back to work within a couple of weeks, but each patient is different and you should take the time to recover at your body’s own rate. You should be sure to avoid strenuous activities for the first six weeks of your recovery. Putting too much strain on your abdomen too soon will slow your recovery and cause you discomfort.
