What is Waxing?
Waxing is among the many different options for hair removal. Waxing stands out as a semi-permanent hair removal method that removes the hair from the root meaning there are longer intervals between hair re-growth when compared to shaving. By removing the hair from the root, the root is weakened in the process, so the hair will grow back lighter and finer. Waxing also decreases the chances of irritation because there are no chemicals or abrasive instruments involved, leaving the skin feeling smooth and even.

Meet Dr. RifaiHow is Waxing Done?
Waxing does require about ¼ inch of hair growth. Any shorter and the wax may not be able to grip the hair, and any longer and the hair may break instead of being removed causing more discomfort. To begin the wax process, your provider will clean the area being waxed. While the wax heats up, this is a great opportunity to discuss your desired results. Once at the right temperature, your provider will apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth using a disposable spatula.
A strip of special waxing paper is then placed over the wax. Your provider will rub the strip with their hand before holding down the skin and quickly pulling the strip up. This is when the hair is actually removed. It can be uncomfortable, but the pain is usually very quick. As you continue to get waxed the hair will grow back finer making it more comfortable.
Who is a Good Candidate for Waxing?
Whether you have light hair or dark hair, anyone who wishes to have their hair removed can be waxed. Popular areas of hair removal include:
- Legs
- Arms
- Underarms
- Bikini Area
- Stomach
- Back
- Face
Basically, wherever hair grows, wax can remove it. If you have certain skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or even a sunburn waxing may not be for you. Make sure to talk with your doctor first if you are taking certain antibiotics or acne medications.
What Our Patients Say
After Waxing
Immediately after your wax, your provider will apply a nourishing cream that has a cooling sensation. This provides instant relief from the lingering stinging feeling. The skin is delicate following a wax, so make sure you avoid prolonged sun exposure and exposure to products that may irritate the skin. Moisturizing the waxed area with baby oil or another moisturizer can help to keep the area smooth and promote even hair re-growth.
