The Lip Filler Injection Process

Lip filler injections can often be administered immediately following your consultation. A topical numbing agent may be applied to keep you comfortable through the procedure. However, this is not always necessary, as many filler products including Juvederm contain lidocaine within their formulas. The filler product will then be injected using fine needles, meaning that the process causes only minor discomfort.

After Receiving Lip Injections

One of the benefits of nonsurgical lip enhancement using injectables is that the procedure requires no downtime. Patients can immediately return to their normal routines after the procedure if they choose to do so. However, some visible side effects may be noticeable, including redness and swelling. Bruising and some bleeding are also possible, though less common. Patients often feel some sensitivity in the treated area, which should dissipate quickly. Your injector will advise you to avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, strenuous activity such as exercise, or applying pressure to the injection site, as these increase the risk of unnecessary bruising, bleeding, or other unwanted side effects. During your consultation, your injector will provide specific aftercare instructions.

Lip injection results are not permanent. Patients can receive maintenance injections about every six months to keep up their desired look. A long-term treatment plan can be determined during your consultation.
