Types of breast augmentation

Not all breast enhancement procedures are the same, and your recovery will depend on the nature of the treatment you receive, as well as your individual anatomy and biological composition. The nature of your recovery, including the time required to fully get back on your feet, is a function of several different factors:

• Incision location
• Breast implant placement location
• Type of breast implants
• Breast implant shape

Recovery and Healing

No matter the procedure you select, certain aspects of recovery are similar for all women. For example, you’ll probably experience some swelling and discomfort for several days after your surgery. In many cases, over-the-counter painkillers are sufficient, but if you experience significant pain, we’ll prescribe more effective medications.

You’ll need to wear a recovery bra and compression garment for a period of several days or weeks after surgery. These special pieces of clothing help keep your tissue in place as it heals. You may notice that the implants initially sit higher on your chest than you had imagined. This is normal, and you can expect your breasts to settle over a period of three to six weeks.

Definitely plan to take it easy for the first two weeks after your surgery. While you can resume some light activities within a couple of weeks, you should plan to wait at least six weeks before engaging in any strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting. Remember, your body needs to heal, so give it time.
